From: Micayla Bergen on 14 Jul 2005 01:45 i have a series of data as a line graph, i want my average to be plotted as well. the average is a single value based on the series not a moving average. i have put the average 'series' in and told the chart to plot empty cells but nothing has appeared except my single value average and it is not formatted the same as the actual series, i.e. the series is 0.895whatever and my average is 0.774589etc. but the series is showing up as a whole number but the average is not, i.e. series is 8.95whatever and average is still 0.774589 thanks anyone

From: Jon Peltier on 14 Jul 2005 11:57 Do you want the average as the value of the last point? Arrange the data like this and make the line chart with these two columns. Category Value a 0.895 b 0.745 c 0.729 ... ... Average 0.774589 Do you want the average as an additional series plotted with the actual values? Arrange the data like this and make the line chart with these three columns. Category Value Average a 0.895 0.774589 b 0.745 0.774589 c 0.729 0.774589 ... ... ... - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ Micayla Bergen wrote: > i have a series of data as a line graph, i want my average to be plotted as > well. the average is a single value based on the series not a moving average. > i have put the average 'series' in and told the chart to plot empty cells but > nothing has appeared except my single value average and it is not formatted > the same as the actual series, i.e. the series is 0.895whatever and my > average is 0.774589etc. but the series is showing up as a whole number but > the average is not, i.e. series is 8.95whatever and average is still 0.774589 > thanks anyone
From: Micayla Bergen on 14 Jul 2005 20:04 The first data series is a calculation of other numbers and the results are 6 decimal numbers less than 0, i.e. 0.823736, 0.863585 etc. the average is 0.772898. the numbers are showing up as 8.23736 and 8.63585 etc whereas the average is plotting as 0.772898. the numbers are all formatted the same, i dont know why one is showing up as the other. (the average was still plotting as only a single dot but i have changed by putting the average in multiple cells so it plots as a line.) From: Jon Peltier on 15 Jul 2005 07:13 I hadn't noticed the misplaced decimal point in your first post. I can't think why the plotted values would be off by a factor of 10. If you send the workbook by private email (make the obvious correction to the email address), I'll take a look at it. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ Micayla Bergen wrote: > The first data series is a calculation of other numbers and the results are 6 > decimal numbers less than 0, i.e. 0.823736, 0.863585 etc. the average is > 0.772898. the numbers are showing up as 8.23736 and 8.63585 etc whereas the > average is plotting as 0.772898. the numbers are all formatted the same, i > dont know why one is showing up as the other. > (the average was still plotting as only a single dot but i have changed by > putting the average in multiple cells so it plots as a line.) > > "Barb Reinhardt" wrote: > > >>Can you give an example of the data as displayed in Excel? >>"Micayla Bergen" <MicaylaBergen(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >>news:18584AF7-9255-4466-92CB-40B43731B088(a)microsoft.com... >> >>>i have a series of data as a line graph, i want my average to be plotted as >>>well. the average is a single value based on the series not a moving >>>average. >>>i have put the average 'series' in and told the chart to plot empty cells >>>but >>>nothing has appeared except my single value average and it is not >>>formatted >>>the same as the actual series, i.e. the series is 0.895whatever and my >>>average is 0.774589etc. but the series is showing up as a whole number but >>>the average is not, i.e. series is 8.95whatever and average is still >>>0.774589 >>>thanks anyone >> >> >>
