I don't have any mp3 players, but I have several usb drives, sticks, etc.
I plug it in, and it is mounted as a device. Borrow a friends, plug it in
and see what happens.

Good Luck!

I have a Rave MP that just shows up as a usb drive. Drag and drop. Works
fine.

I have a Samsung "Yepp" YP-T6 which is recognised as 'USB removable
storage' and I use my filemanager (mc) to manage the files on it. (It's
one of the elite gadgets that can play Ogg Vorbis files, too, which was an
important consideration). Whether it will be 'mounted' automatically
depends on your system settings (and how reliable auto-mounting is for
you).

I think all USB2 devices are backwards-compatible to older USB
specifications, but I'd look at the paperwork that comes with with the
gadget, or look at the maker's website for information, to make sure.

I'm using an IAUDIO U2 player with 1 Gb of memory. It's just a matter of
plugging it into a USB port and it shows on the desktop (GNOME/KDE).
Automounts and works without any issues.

But hey, they even put the text 'Works with Linux (kernel 2.4 and
later)' on the package (which was _one_ of the reasons I bought it in
the first place).

As far as the player can be regarded as a removable (standard) hard
drive you'll have little problem.
