From: LostInTheLoop on 27 May 2010 06:31 Hi, is anybody successfully using an all-in-one printer/scanner on Slackware? I can't find in local stores anything listed both on http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html and http://www.cups.org/ppd.php TIA

IIRC, I upgraded the hplip package to hplip-3.9.12 under slack 12.2 to get past some bugs. Probably, that is not necessary now that hplip-3.10.2 is provided with slack 13.1. I just took a look at the cups interface, and I see it has been slightly revamped in 13.1. Also, I had to "hammer" on it a bit to get the HP printer added- for whatever reason the "hp-setup" command did not work, probably because it needed root priviledge but did not prompt for the root password the way that cups does. Once installed the HPs works great- at least for the HP equipment that I have. -- Douglas Mayne

Last year, I bought an HP OfficeJet J4680 All-in-one Printer/Scanner/Fax that I use on my Slackware 12.0 system. I had to upgrade HPLIP to version 2.8.10, though. But, this got me the J4680 PPD /and/ the sane driver for the scanner. I don't print-to-fax, and haven't tried /that/ portion of the HPLIP/CUPS interface. However, I've successfully printed to the printer, and scanned from the printer, all under software control. Recently added an HP OfficeJet 6500 to the home LAN (it's got it's own ethernet port), and it works absolutely great. Love it. -- "Ubuntu" -- an African word, meaning "Slackware is too hard for me".
