From: adam_77 on 3 Jul 2008 11:20 It used to be that when I tried to insert a header/footer, I got what I wanted (page number, date, etc.) . Now all of my documents have been changed, so when I insert a header or footer I get the field code instead. Example: I insert page number, and at the bottom of my screen, I get {PAGE \ MERGEFORMAT} instead of the page #. All of my documents are now doing this, and each time I go into them, I have to manually toggle every single field code. Once I close the document, it reverts back. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks very much.
From: Bob Buckland ?:-) on 3 Jul 2008 11:48 Hi Adam, You should be able to use Alt+F9 to toggle the field code display. The option setting is Office Button=>Word Options=>Advanced=>Show document content [ ] Show field codes instead of their values ============== <<"adam_77" <adam_77(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BE963102-87D4-489E-86B2-604E7D8AF77C(a)microsoft.com... You can use Alt+F9 to toggle field codes, or you can toggle them on the View tab of Tools | Options. If they are not displayed when you quit Word, they should not be displayed when you open it again. I find it handy to have a toolbar button to toggle fields, just because I can tell from a glance at the button what the display state of fields is, even if the document doesn't contain any. -- Suzanne S.
