Well, tried all suggestions.The xhtml is clean, as far as I could tell, and the
real issue was not the css, table, template, or editable region, it was the
text being copied into the xhtml file. There was a link that was written out
(http://www.biodiversityhotspots.org/xp/Hotspots/tumbes_choco/Pages/default.aspx
) and the css defaulted to not wrap the link. I suppose that this could be
fixed by changing the link tags in css to wrap, but I just changed the text to
a shorter hyperlink (as it should have been to start with), and problem solved!

So - as stated originally, it had nothing to do with template markup, and
everything to do with the either the contents of the editable region, or its
immediate HTML context, right?
