From: Fei on 7 May 2008 21:14 i there a way in MSP2k7 I can define a project to be resource centric or task centric?
From: Dale Howard [MVP] on 7 May 2008 22:40 Fei -- I have no idea what you mean by "resource centric" or "task centric." Why don't you explain a little more about what you mean and what you are looking to do, and we will try to help you. -- Dale A. From: Fei on 8 May 2008 00:06 thanks Dale, Dave has helped me with a question previously. he said "You could use the baseline work field. Essentially what you are describing is a problem of how to view the actual work carried out by resources on a task against what you originally planned should take place. Because of this you are looking at a resource-centric or task-centric view and you can get this information from either the Resource or Task Usage views. " please see the link http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.project&mid=c6bb95d5-e793-4cf8-8372-8b8dced07e58&sloc=en-us Maybe there isn't a function to set resource/time/task centric in MSP, maybe they are just the ways that a project can be viewed and managed. i.e. methodology?
From: Dave on 8 May 2008 03:14 It would have helped to have included references to the original question to help set the context. However as I understood the issue at the time, you had a plan and you wanted to be able to view who did what work as opposed to who was originally planned to do the work. Firstly, set a baseline (Tools/Tracking/Baseline). This will record the resource assignments that exist at the outset. Then if you go to either the Resource Usage or Task Usage view, you can right click on the right hand table and add the baseline work field, the work field and the actual work field. This will allow you to see how the actual work assignments differed from the orignial baseline assignments. I used the term resource-centric to mean that from the Resource Usage view you can see on a resource-by-resource basis how the individual's assignments have changed from the original plan to now. Similarly, you can do the same on a task-by-task basis in the Task Usage view. Please provide some feedback as to whether or not this answers your question. From: Fei on 8 May 2008 20:56 thanks Dave This resopnse helped me to understand the concept better :) "Dave" wrote: > It would have helped to have included references to the original > question to help set the context. > > However as I understood the issue at the time, you had a plan and you > wanted to be able to view who did what work as opposed to who was > originally planned to do the work. > > Firstly, set a baseline (Tools/Tracking/Baseline).
