Has anyone tried tor? http://tor.eff.org

From what I understand tor was initially designed and developed as part of
the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's Onion Routing program.

It is an anomynous Internet communication system. I was able to
successfully install it on my Slackware 10 home system using DSL. After
installing privoxy to use on Firefox and Mozilla, I browsed to junkbusters
and the junkbusters privacy testing website never got my correct IP
address. In fact junkbusters detected one IP address using my Firefox
browser and another IP address when I loaded up my Mozilla browser. Looks
like privoxy and tor's onion routers are working.

Perhaps some other folks have ideas on Internet privacy.

well...i just installed it and it seems to work ok.
it also kills a lot of ad.'s, but things seem to go much slower ?

i'll experiment a while with it, and hope for some more opinions on this.

Yeah, things are a lot slower, that's the tradeoff. IMO this kind of stuff's
not so good for web-like things, the bandwidth is fine but the latency
isn't.

I've been using it since it was mentioned on /. a few months back and
I've found it to be largely worthless for anything OTHER than web
surfing. Not because of any flaws in the tech, but becasue it didn't
take long to be so thoroughly abused that most IRC servers, for example,
ban it outright. =\

It just takes a few asshats to ruin a good thing.
