It seems that I can log all of the playhing that I do, no
matter if it is recorded in Sonar or not, by logging the
keyboard in midiox. In case something intersting happens
while I'm playing around, it's there in a text file (other
oprions available) that can be converted to a midi file.

Also, I added a small USB number pad to my midi
piano. The Targus that I bought for $17 at Best Buy
has two midi ports. I use one for the piano and the
other is free for now. I can start recording, move to
ans insert markers and move measures to the right
and left. It would be even better if there were a
control key on the keypad. I'd bet that you advanced
guys have a lot more sophisticated setup but this is
fun for me.
