Does anyone ever try this Pocket PC OS ? (My question is also for the
people
of Microsoft who check this group)

I got problems after problems on this OS, my device is an O2 Atom (I
really think about going back to my Nokia 6100 ...), see the end of my
post for all the problems I faced after less than 4 days of use. It's
not only bugs, they forget a lot of basic features in it. This system
is really unstable for me. It really look like untested and, sincerly,
I think it really is (even after what Paul say to me
http://groups.google.com.vn/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync/browse_frm/thread/f4456fd8569518a3/1e0bdc365d862408#1e0bdc365d862408).

What is your opinion on this OS ? Does anyone face the same problems
than me or do I ask to much for a 900 usd Device+OS ... (it's the price
of a laptop and it look like there is a 1 trainee only development team
on it (by the way, I got nothing agains the trainees, they do excelent
job in my company, maybe I can recommend them for the Windows 5.0
development team ?)

Is there a commercial strategy to sell under development softwares at
this price ?

Really what is missing here is a real alternative solution proposed by
the constructors. I really think that, if Microsoft win the pocket pc
market with this kind of OS it will stop the inovation for years and
years (like for Internet Explorer, for example).

I don't know if it's the right place for this kind of discussion, I
think i will also ask slashdot about this. Please give me your
opinions, advices. How can we, as customers, stop to be the alpha/beta
testers of uncomplete/untested system that we paid for ? How we can
make OS/Software providers provide serious software/os for pocket pc?.

Uncorrected serious BUG:

- Getting firewall and TCP/IP problem trying to get synchronized it
with the provided CD and the last Windows XP version (SP2 with all
patch).
- You really need to be Administrator of your computer for using this
device
- VERY VERY SLOW, partially solved by hacking the registry database.
- Alarm clock is not working until you plug this device (even the clock
yes, simple feature, but not woking).
- Install/Unistall of program may make the explorer hang (solution:
Hard Reset)
- Camera take 15 to 30 seconds to wakeup and doen't work 3 time on 5
- on and off is sometime not working (solution:
- Message management is incomplete look like a alpha version (messages
come again and again on your foreground since you mark them read)
- Many foregroud program running by default making it slower and
slower, and consuming your memory and your battery, for example a
MSNServer alway running even if you are not connected, and this is not
the only one)

Missing features (basic ones):

- No Backup system
- No SMS synchronization (Hard Reset, necessary 3 time in 4 day of use
and u forget ur SMS) there is no way to backup those.
- No Direct link to WIFI (5 clicks for WIFI turn on button and no
possibility to put it in the today screen)
- No possibilties (no one that I found) to manage your memory / storage
device you can just see the default they put for u.
- No support
- No Help (except people of forum and group)
- No Warranty on the system (usual, like for the open source, but you
pay)
- No desktop (only menu, no icons)
- No tab in IE (it's more necessary than anywhere else)
- No javascript support in IE
- No registry editor/backup/management (necessary to correct some BUG)
- No background running progam simple access (like task bar or
something else)
- No direct battery visibility (yes, this is not a joke ...)
- No add/remove programs (you cannot desinstall MSN, IE, Windows media
player, pocket office, O2 comercial programs, etc.)
- No Running program management (You cannot stop the MSNServer)
- etc ...

and this is just what i found in 4 days.

Yep, after using Sharp Zaurus, Apple Newton, Power Zaurus, Sony NR-70V,
this next device leaves a lot ot be desired.
>From a usability point of view, a lot of built in applications just
don't provide an undo tryping function (i.e. Contact). Isn't this the
fifth incarnation of the OS? Just unacceptable...
