Since this will be eight years old now, there seems little merit in installing it then patching it to within an inch of its life, so grab a current version from sunfreeware.com and burn that to cd. -- John.

The Blueprint book suggests ssh was added to the OS in Solaris 9 and that you should use openssh (+openssl) for Solaris 8 and earlier. -- John.

And if you have to go down that road anyways... I would recommend getting the source code for both of these, and then apply the "High Performance Networking" patches from the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. It's good code, and they're a good bunch. Colin

It's good code, and they're a good bunch. Also keep in mind if there is no /dev/random, you'll need to install an entropy deamon. I think there was one patch on a certain version of S8 to add in the /dev/random, but I seem to remember it either had never resolved problems or wasn't good enough and ssh/sshd complained about it. Maybe it required so many other patches to work, the whole proceedure was simplified by using a 3rd party entropy source. Just saying there might be a bit more work involved than appears on the surface. -bruce bje(a)ripco.com
