Hello. I am new to wifi.

I am looking for a card for the Jornada 720, but I have heard that
there are different types of wifi 802.11g and 802.11b. I can find
cards for 802.11b but not the newer 802.11g. Could someone please
explain how this will effect my use of wifi. i.e is the older 802.11b
becoming obselete, also I would like to recive wifi in the uk, europe,
and US cities.

Look for one of the original Orinoco/Lucent pcmcia cards... if memory
serves, it already had the driver in rom, but think there are HPC/WinCE
2.x drivers for it on the cd and downloadable as well.

There were a number of these cards with different brands... the common
factor that will make it usable will be the chipset...

802.11b is not obsolete yet as it is still in wide use, and most "g"
ap's and hotspots have backward compatibility even if they run newer
protocols... about the only problem that might come up is if you need to
connect to a location that requires higher security.

afail, the protocol is the same when traveling internationally.

"hotspots" are still _very_ random and cannot be relied on to make
internet connections while traveling... the tend to be luxuries when you
do find them... for example, last trip, four motels and one had wifi.
