From: Gary and Sue on 8 May 2005 22:02 Is anyone having problems getting windows update to work with the Asus p4p 800 e deluxe mainboard? 3 ghz pentium 4 processor and 2 gig of ram mem. This unit will work with windows update for awhile and then it stops. We've repaired windows as well as having started over fresh to no avail. I'm wondering if this could be a bios problem? Gary
From: Mercury on 9 May 2005 05:05 Hi, I doubt it very much. Your description is a tad short though. For example, when WU fails can you still browse other web sites, use email, or use any other internet related s/w? You don't indicate the type of connection - is it xDSL, dialup or other? The fault could lie anywhere including your ISP, outer or modem if any, web browser - it could be hijacked. What exactly happens when WU fails? So, check the obvious first. If you do not have AV or antispyware, or its not up to date start there. - Tim "Gary and Sue" <bear65(a)netins.net> wrote in message news:d5mgav$4r5$1(a)news.netins.net... > Is anyone having problems getting windows update to work with the Asus p4p > 800 e deluxe mainboard? 3 ghz pentium 4 processor and 2 gig of ram mem. > This unit will work with windows update for awhile and then it stops. > We've repaired windows as well as having started over fresh to no avail. > I'm wondering if this could be a bios problem? > > Gary >

The first time the WU loaded it half completed then stopped--ever since, WU will not start at all. There is no other issue event--browser works, etc. I think nothing short of a full reinstall of XP will deliver the full update. But no problemo--updates are not necessary, I have found, on security matters so long as the firewall is enabled and Windows Messanger is disabled. -- Best Regards,
From: Montana Pete on 9 May 2005 11:10 Windows update succeeding or failing is not a hardware problem. Windows update comes and goes, and while it is usually available sometimes you will get the "Thank you for your interest in Windows Update" followed by instruction to do what you just did. That will, of course, bring you back to the same screen again. Try it again tomorrow. What failure message or symptom are you getting in detail please.
