Tom Kyte's book "Expert Oracle Database Architecture: Oracle Database
Programming 9i, 10g, and 11g Techniques and Solutions, Second Edition"
was supposed to be released yesterday and it isn't yet available on the
Amazon. What is he doing? Can Oracle Corp. clone him? We need more than a
single Tom Kyte. Things would be much better if there were 3 or 4
instances of Tom Kyte, clustered. I'll be so presumptuous to suggest the
marketing name ExpertData, named after "Exadata".
Does anyone know when will the book be released into the wild?

I pre-ordered this book a couple of weeks ago. This morning Amazon
emailed that it had been shipped. I should have on Monday.

I don't know what we will do when Tom retires. I don't think Oracle is
grooming anyone to eventually take over AskTom.

I just checked my order on Amazon - it is showing an expected ship
date of July 19, 2010. The "Look Inside" feature on Amazon is working
for the book, with some of the test cases showing Oracle 11g R2, so I
assume that the book is finished.

I believe Oracle has configured a TAF stand-by Tom Kyte. Don't sweat
it ;)

I will not pre-order books, as a matter of principle. I have bad
experience with Amazon. I pre-ordered another book and was waiting for 2
weeks after the book has been released. In my opinion, pre-ordering the
book means that I should have it the very same day as it hits the stores.
In that particular case, I was so annoyed that I called the Amazon, made
a help desk person cry and escalated it to a manager. The manager told me
that the book is being shipped and that I will have it as soon as all the
shipments to book stores are completed. I will not pre-order a book ever
again.
