The adapter remains plugged always into the same USB port, for my
adapter is COM4
I just disconnect the HP48 from the adapter only.
I think it is probably a software problem, but once I reset the
program, the adapter works perfectly.

Thanks to everyone. I'll let you know if I nail this one. Anyone
know if Conn4x will accept commanline parameters and the syntax?

From the Conn4x help file under "Command Line": one parameter is
allowed, the name of the communication port. Like HPx9G+, the USB port
for the calculator. Other port names might be COM1, COM2 or whatever
is shown in the Connect Using box of the HP 48, 49 Calculator
Connectivity Kit main screen.

Good to know about the p7h55-m. Unfortunately there seem to be two
kinds of pinouts in use for these serial port adapter cables. I found
this out when hunting for one for my Asus P5Q Deluxe. I bought the
wrong kind (of course) and then after some digging I found I had the
right kind from an older Asus board all along, just sitting there in a
box...
