I've downloaded a number of programs and none of them will install. I can
install programs from CDs just fine, but just nothing from the internet (the
files themselves are fine, they've worked on another computer)

I've received a number of error messages, depending on the program. They
have been:

1) NSIS Error - installer is corrupted
2) Setup decompression failed, possible download error.
3) Failed to extract files, low memory/disk space or a corrupted cabinet file.

I haven't been able to upgrade XP to SP2 because of the downloading problem.
A scan didn't turn up any viruses. Any ideas?

There was a new installer from MS fairly recently. Get that and install it.
