This issue involves Word 2007.

I recently installed MathType 6.5 upgrade. In a new document, when I click
the MathType Tab, I can see its ribbon, but the following error message pops
up in the blank Word doc, "Error occurred starting MathType's Commands in
Word. Please reinstall MathType."

I have already reinstalled and I've talked with the tech folks for MathType
(Design Science) three times. The tech had me do several different things,
including not just uninstalling MathType and reinstalling, but we also
cleaned up some lingering files.

I've run a repair on Office Pro 2007, as well as a total reinstall. But
I've still got the problem.

An additional note - if I try to open an existing equation - that was
created in MathType, I also get the same message.

Anybody have any ideas? - Thanks

The best people to ask about the peculiarities of MathType and its
relationship with Word are DesignScience, however inasmuch as Word may be
responsible for the problem, I should point out that re-installing rarely
achieves anything useful as the problems that beset Word are far more
commonly concerned with the user files associated with an installation and
these remain unaffected by a re-installation. See
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm. with
particular emphasis on the normal template, the data key in the registry and
possible interference from other add-ins.
