Hunt down antivirus,antispyware,etc., daemon tools (or other virtual
drive emulator) plus folder lock or other locker. Uninstall them &
delete leftovers....
Had same problem, worked for me....

Youre going about it wrong....If you have a xp cd (retail),install xp
cd,restart
pc,boot to xp cd (set the BIOS to cdrom 1st boot device w/xp cd,hd 2nd)set
this in boot priority/or similiar,once at xp cd boot menu,select
install,new copy,
delete the partition,create one,let the cd format & install auto...Otherwise
youre simply installing over the old OS...
