Has an Athlon XP 2500 and PC2700. Anyone know how many slots for RAM?
Trying to help a friend in AK who knows nothing, so may need to order
RAM for him.
Think I'd read it has 2Gb ram max. Have a bunch of old 512's, so if
it's got 4 slots; FREEBIE!!, if only 2, will have to buy some.

Thanks

Mark

Go to www.crucial.com and put the manufacturer and model in there. It'll
tell you how many slots and the maximum capacity.

I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.

Not trying too hard, my friend. Google.

A7V8X-LA (Kelut) with KM400A chipset from VIA. 2 slots.
If you trace down the details on HP, the motherboard page
has a picture, if you want to admire the layout.

You can also just pick something out on the Crucial site.
I find it a bit strange, that Crucial doesn't show more product
as compatible. It seems they're only recommending actual PC2700
for it. On Crucial at least, normally they'd push some of their
faster memory, but they aren't in this case. I don't recollect
the KM400A being "tricky".

http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=19764

Now, when Crucial offers memory for the Asus A7V400-MX motherboard
(which uses KM400A), they're offering PC3200 memory as installable.
(Faster memory can be run at a slower speed.) So the listing for
the HP a610e motherboard is a bit strange. I don't
know if that means the BIOS is a problem, or what.

You might Google the a610e model number and see if anyone reports
a problem doing memory upgrades.
