1) And the edition of Windows installed and it's Service Pack level is
_________ ?

2) a. What is the installed security software (antivirus/security
suite/3rd party firewall/pop up or cookie blocker/etc) ?

b. Is the antivirus' subscription current; if yes, when was the last
time the system was scanned for the presence of malware ?

3) Has this error ever occurred previously ?

As you've already witnessed, Zone Alarm does and will continue to cause
updating issues.

Security software that *interferes* with the detection, download, and
installation of Security updates for an Operating System is absurd.
The Zone Alarm and Comodo firewalls are both known to cause such issues.

The native Windows firewall in conjunction with a hardware firewall
found in a wired or wireless router provide sufficient protection for
the *vast* majority of Home Users.
