Mail had been working normally this morning. Having gone out for a while
on checking for new messages Mail crashed and continued to crash every
time it tried to check for new mail. I have tried on two other machines
and both exhibit the same behaviour. I can access the accounts using
webmail and Thunderbird also works normally.

The crash report contains the following which may indicate something to
the knowledgeable:

> Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
> Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x064fe001

It would seem to me that VirginMedia have done something that is
upsetting Mail.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Alec

It doesn't crash Mail here, but VirginMedia's been having *lots* of
IMAP and SMTP login problems over the last week. Like it fails 50% of
the time?

Also have you updated your IMAP/SMTP connection settings for VM? I'm
not sure everyone had to, but you would have received several emails
from VM about it.

If you mean turning on SSL etc then yes. In any case the setting are the
same as for Thunderbird and that works.

I've just tried checking the accounts individually and the GMail account
works fine, it just the VM accounts that cause the problem.

If it doesn't improve it will be time to kick them in to touch I think.

What does Mail's connection doctor say about VM?

Embarrisingly I just went to check and found that normal service has
been resumed so it must have been something at VM's end that was causing
the problem. On the plus side I've found out about Connection Doctor so
I will be able to check when it happens again.

Thanks for your time and trouble.
