Somebody (*) else helped me with the solution:
in /etc/dhcpd.conf, change
option root-path "192.168.1.185:/media/rootfs";
to
option root-path
"192.168.1.185:/media/rootfs,v3,rsize=1024,wsize=1024,proto=tcp,nolock,intr";
Problem gone.
