Hi,

As we know the O/S requirements for SQL versions are defined at the time of
the SQL release and may get updated as new O/S's come out.

We are running SQL2005 (mostly SP2 currently) on W2K3 servers. If we bring
in new servers running W2K8 R2 can we still install SQL2005 SP3 builds on
that O/S?

I cannot force our SQL servers up to SQL2008 at this time so I am just
interested to know that SQL2005 will run on W2K8 R2.

Thanks

Chris

It's good Jeffrey but doesn't mention W2K8R2 as it was released after this
article was last updated. I am assuming it would be the same as W2K8 only
that it comes as 64_bit only so a 32_bit SQL runs in WOW64.

Thanks

Chris

Well, that's the thing - if you can't find a specific document that states
it is supported, even if it runs you might be at risk.

BTW - there is no reason to install x86 version of SQL Server 2005 and above
on x64 hardware. Yes, it is supported - but why would you?
