With a similar question, I went searching the web and found these postings. ...which still do not entirely clear the confusion for me.

See the link I've listed at the bottom of my post for reference purposes.

According to the microsoft website, the Windows SBS 2008 Standard includes Windows Server 2008 Standard Technologies.

However, the SBS 2008 Premium has the Server 2008 Standard Technologies and, for a second server (quoted from the website), it also has Windows Server 2008 Standard and Microsoft SQL.

The question that I have is whether the Windows SBS 2008 Standard has a "light" or "full" version of Windows Server 2008 Standard. Does the "Standard Technologies" mean that something was left out?

Specifically, I'm wondering if SBS 2008 Standard has the II7 technology for web serving.

Thanks for any help.

Can someone tell me exactly what Windows Server 2008 Standard =
Technologies=20
is, and how it differs from Windows Server 2008?

I have asked this before and not received any answers.
I have look everywhere and not found anything that talks about it.

It is in the SBS package, however it too does not explain exactly what =
it is?

Thank you, any information is greatly appreciated.

There is no technology exclusion or limitation. There are licensing
requirements that keep the Windows Server 2008 Standard eidtion tied to the
SBS installation. ie, you can't take the Std installaiton somewhere else and
use it there.

From: Cliff Galiher - MVP on
The reason that SBS materials refer to the SBS server, whether SBS standard,
or the first server in SBS premium, as "built on windows standard
technologies" is two-fold.

1) There are some Windows features that are only available in Enterprise or
Datacenter editions of windows. So the built on Standard Technologies clause
sets the boundaries for what features you can expect to run on SBS.

2) They can't simply come out and say that SBS *is* Windows 200x standard
edition because it simply isn't. It does not support cross-domain trusts,
for example. The few restrictions it does have are licensing related and
clearly documented, but they are enoguh that to present SBS as a pure
standard edition would not be accurate. So instead SBS is built on standard
"technologies."

So that is the basic idea. With that said, to address your second question,
yes SBS has IIS. However, I would *not* host a public website on any domain
controller, SBS or otherwise. If that is what you are considering SBS for,
I'd *STRONGLY* urge you to look at picking up a Windows Server Web Edition
and setting it up on a separate network (DMZ, or however you want to
logically view the separation.) There is simply no reason to have a website
sitting on your internal network.
