I would guess it's most likely two reasons: 1) It tried the other MX first and something went wrong, but we don't know what. Then when it tried the backup, that failed for the obvious reason, and it only reported the second error. 2) Your mail server is broken and doesn't try MX records in priority order correctly. DS
