I just replaced Office 2000 SR-1 with Office Home & Student 2007.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the original install disc for Office 2000 SR-1
so I force uninstalled it (just the program files).

The symptoms I'm getting are with two programs, Outlook Express and Mathcad.
With OE every time I send an e-mail I get an error message from Windows
Installer saying it is trying to configure Office 2000 SR-1 (the e-mail goes
through by the way) and with Mathcad I get a message from my anti-virus
program saying it has quarantined a ~f1d055.tmp file and the program fails
to open. Also, when I list programs on my machine Office 2000 SR-1 still
comes up. I suspect these problems are related to the registry and would
like some advice as to what I need to change there. Thanks in advance.

Try this and see if it helps:
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

SC Tom,

Thanks for replying. I did as you suggested and that did help somewhat. It
cleared up the list of programs generated by "Add/Remove Programs" utility
in the Control Panel (however Office 2000 programs still show up when I run
msinfo32). It also enabled Outlook Express to go to Office 2007 for spell
checking (however I still have the problem with opening Mathcad). Thanks
again.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling MathCAD? Have you updated your
AV definitions and scanned the .tmp file again? Is there a setting in your
AV program to ignore MathCAD and its components?
If you run MSCONFIG, do any of the old O2000 files show up under the startup
tab? If so, uncheck them and see if that corrects the problem.

SC Tom,

I don't have the Mathcad disk anymore so I cannot try your first suggestion.
I am leery about setting my AV program to ignore Mathcad and its components.
I ran msconfig and Office 2000 programs did not show up in the start up tab
(neither are they in the Run keys). One other symptom that I forgot to
mention is that every time this happens Windows thinks there is a file
system error and checks the disk for consistency on start up.

Do you know of a malware/spyware newsgroup that I might poll about the
~f1d055.tmp file? I did submit it to my AV program provider but I don't
expect to hear back from them directly. Thanks in advance.
