I am having the exact same issue. We have a small remote office using
Windows Home Server and redirected My Doduments folders to the user
folder on the server. When the user attempts to open Office documents,
it is slow to open with that "downloading" issue mentioned above. Other
documents such as .PDF files are fine. Only Office docs. If I use the
"Run" as Russo mentioned above, I too can open files very quickly. I
tried maopping a drive letter and it was still slow. If I used the
recent list, it was fast.

What is the resolution?!?!?
