A woman had a reunion of sorts with her husband in Lenoir County Jail
this week after an indictment alleged she helped the man kill her infant
son.

Lenoir County deputies took Ashley Stallings Terrell, 23, of Little
River, S.C., into custody Tuesday afternoon for an April 27 indictment
connecting her to the 2008 death of her son Jailyn McKoy when she
returned to Lenoir County for a child custody hearing for two children
seized from the mother shortly after the homicide.

A Lenoir County Grand Jury charged Terrell with first-degree murder and
felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

An investigation by the sheriff's office revealed Terrell was in the
couple's British Road home on Nov. 5, 2008 when the boy's stepfather,
Iran Rashad Terrell, participated in the death of the infant by abusing
the then 2-year-old.

“I have to be very guarded in the information I hand out, with it
possibly going to trial,” LCSO Maj. Chris Hill said. “We do believe,
based on the information gathered during the investigation, she was
aware of the abuse and some other circumstances leading up to the boy's
death.”

Iran Terrell, a former Camp Lejeune Marine who admitted to disciplining
the child before paramedics found the infant not breathing at the home,
received charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse
inflicting serious injury.

The charges came days following the boy's death when an autopsy by the
Greenville Medical Examiners Office determined the toddler died from
blunt force injury to the head.

Ashley, who had her arraignment in Lenoir County District Court
Thursday, currently sits in Lenoir County Jail with her husband without
bond awaiting trial. Iran Rashad Terrell has remained in jail since his
arrest date in November 2008.
