Trying to balance checking

From: desgnr on 17 Jan 2010 10:58 Quicken 2010 deluxe First time trying to balance my checking account. I am off by $400.00 Do i reconcile by Paper Dtatement or Online Balance ? My Paper statement says 12/16/2009 thru 1/14/2010 From 12/15/2009 back,everything is reconciled! From 12/16/2009 thru 12/30/2009 there are no cleared marks. From 12/31/2009 thru now everything has Cleared marks. Maybe this is when i first went online with the account. Do i have to Manually put Cleared marks on the above ? I don't want to mess the account up. I know my Balace is correct by doing the Statement on paper. You can make a one time adjustment to your opening balance. Does your online balance (at the bottom of the register) match your register balance?

You reconcile to the paper statement. Click on "reconcile" and a small window pops up. Enter the closing date from the statement. Then the ending balance from the statement. When you click "OK", the transaction detail window pops up. Make sure there are check marks next to the transactions on the statement (and only those on the statement). If you have some transactions that did not download, they will not have a check mark. If they are on the statement, put one next to the transaction. Then, the account should balance correctly. The rest of the transactions will get reconciled when the next statement arrives. Hope this helps. -- Jim |
