Hi -

I've set up a flowline that has two consecutive sounds icons prior to
diplaying an interaction icon containing a question.

The first sound icon is for the question audio.
The second sound icon is for the audio for the set of answer choices.

Originally, I had the file set up to fully play the question audio and then to
play the answer audio BEFORE the interaction icon becomes active (thus forcing
participants to fully hear the question AND choices before answering). I did
this by using "WAIT FOR PREVIOUS SOUND' in the timing tab for the sound icons.

My client now want the question interaction to be immediately active while the
question and answers play.

Is there a way to have TWO separate sound icons play in order 'concurrently'?
Or do I need to combine BOTH audio files into one single sound icon and set
that to concurrent? I was hoping to avoid combining the two sound files into
one single sound icon for two reasons:
1. The question and answer files are being delivered separate...so we would
need to put them together.
2. I was hoping to put the answer files that are reused multiple times into a
library file so that they can be reused over and over to keep file size
down....and if I have to combine the question with the answers each time, it
will increase file size.

Or, can I somehow use a command in a CALC ico to play an audio file located
elsewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Combining would be best as far as ease goes. A free audio tool like
Audacity would be fine. I understand the library/management issue though.

Authorware has only one audio channel for the sound icon, as you noted.
The classic/native way of getting around this is to have another audio
play through a sprite or ActiveX control. The real old method was to use
the movie icon with a QT 'audio-only' movie, but the movie icon no
longer handles QT...

So easiest may be to create a Flash movie with the other audio file,
save down as close to Flash 6 as you can, and use the Flash Sprite to
play the other audio file.

Otherwise, I think Gary has an Xtra or .u32 on his site;

that can handle playing audio files - buddyWav, is it?

HI Erik -
Thanks for such a fast response. I was hoping I wasn't overlooking something
really easy in one of the Authorware settings. I will take your advice to
combine files at this point to move forward with the project and see how the
space issues go as we move ahead.
Thanks again!
