I'm running a Dell 3GHz CPU with 2G RAM and WinXP PRO SP2

I have a Umax AstraNET A101 scanner. Does anyone know where I can get
a WINXP driver for this scanner. I can't find it by Google.

Thanks

This computer was originally designed for Win 98 and according to what I can
find on the company's web site there are no Win XP drivers for it.

When I go to their driver site I see: "To find the correct software, select
your scanner and operating system. Certain software IS NOT available for
download. In this case, a CD-ROM may be purchased."

When I try to find the scanner model (by the way is it AstraNet iA101) there
is no listing for that model that can be downloaded. I would recommend
emailing (Contact at support(a)umaxcare.com) to see if they can help find a
driver.

Continuing on my previous. Forget about what I said about contacting their
support. You may be able to get it to work in a virtual PC 98 setting under
XP, Vista or Win 7 but I doubt it. Further from their web site:

"Record ID: SC00198

UMAX SCANNERS WITH WINDOWS XP

Problem: You have upgraded to Windows XP and your scanner no longer works.

Solution: First make sure that you have the required software for Windows XP
and that your model has available software by clicking the "Check
Compatibility" button below.
(some drivers are not downloadable and must be purchased)

Check Compatibility

(Models such as the Vista Series, UC Series, Astra 300P, 2010U, 1210P, and
Astranet iA101 do not work on XP no matter what)"

AND

If the original manufacturer did not see fit to provide one (they did not)
then there really isn't one. Time to get a new scanner - the company that
made your scanner decided not to support Windows XP for that model.

According to this, Astranet ia101 is the same as the 3400 model,
so perhaps you could look for that one.

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-199263.html

You can see that several scanners share the same hardware
description here. The trick would be, if they were released
later in time, there might be later OS support for them.
SANE is the Linux equivalent of TWAIN. You could always pop
a Ubuntu LiveCD into the PC, and boot Ubuntu long enough to
do some scanning. If you only scan occasionally, that solution
might save you from having to buy another scanner. The Ubuntu
download is free (probably around 700MB or so), but you have
to burn a bootable CD with it. I used Nero to burn the CD, but
you can also use a program like Imgburn to do it.

It's also possible, you could look around for alternate sources
of the Umax download. Or find someone who has the CD for
Astra 3400 with a copy of Vistascan 3.75 on it.
