Hi Peter,

This was a fresh install of windows 7x64 Enterprise and a fresh install of
Office Enterprise 2007. Office trial was never on this hard drive. I replaced
the hard drive that came with the OS ( Home Premium) and put the enterprise
edition of Windows 7 on a new 150 gig Velocirapter drive. The original 1.5 TB
drive became my "D" drive and it was formated to remove the trial office
program. I did uninstall Office 2007 when I realized that I did not want all
the features and did a custom reinstall. That is when I realized that I was
having this update problem.

Then you have some remnants still installed and was not removed. Uninstall
everything connected with Office as I posted and then start a new fresh install of
Office Enterprise. That also means uninstalling all the Updates that you have
installed so far.

If you have issues after then I suggest that you phone the Office Enterprise support
line. It is a free call and is included with your HUP purchase

The uninstall and reinstall I did in my second post seems to have worked. It
is more than 24 hours later and I have not been asked to install those 13
updates again. As suggested by Peter, the previous install of the
application must have left some remnants that corrupted my second install of
Office. The third try was the charm.
Microsoft Security did email me in less than 24 hours and offered me help,
but we had fixed it by then. He told me to run the Microsoft Fix It Tool
50202 to reset Windows Update components. You get it at:

He also said: This problem may occur if the Windows Update Software
distribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps
to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the
next time we visit the Windows Update site.



1. Close all the open windows.

2. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".

3. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator".

4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ"
(without the quotes) and press Enter.



Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. However, if it
fails, please let me know before performing any further steps and include any
error messages you may have received when it failed.



5. Click the Start Button, in the "Start Search" box, type in "%windir%"
(without the quotes) and press Enter.

6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".

7. Right-click on the folder, select Rename and type "SDold" (without the
quotes) to rename this folder.

8. While still in the "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the
command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to
restart the Windows Updates service.



Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully started. However, if it failed, please let me know before
performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have
received when it failed.



After that, please perform Windows Update to check the issue again.

If that didn't work he would need further system info to determine a
strategy of attack.
