I have an Eten M700 with Windows Mobile 6 and have just bought a pair of
bluetooth stereo headphones (Plantronics Pulsar 260).

After noticing that the sound quality is pretty poor over bluetooth compared
to wired headphones, can anyone elaborate on the following points? ...

1) I've tried the most suggested registry improvements of setting BitPool,
MaxSupportedBitPool and SampleRate to higher values. While these make a
slight difference, there is still noticeable high-frequency distortion.

2) I've tried setting the 'UseJointStereo' key to both '1' and '0'. When set
to '0', I get stereo sound with distortion. When set to '1' I get only mono
sound but better quality.

After some google searches I have read that setting the key to '1' should
still result in stereo sound if the latest WM6 A2DP bluetooth drivers are
being used; if the sound is mono then the older A2DP (poor-quality) drivers
are being used. Can anyone confirm this?

3) If my WM6 device is still using older A2DP drivers, is there a way to
upgrade to the latest?

Note, I have also tried Motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones in the past and
got exactly the same results, quality-wise. Lots of high-frequency
distortion no matter what registry settings I use.

Regards,
Shaun.

My Motorola S9's sound GREAT with my T-Mobile WM6 Dash (Bluetooth 2.0).
Both the headsets and the Dash have Bluetooth 2.0.

Yes, the MS BT stack is particularly incompatible with the Pulsar 260, as
has been also pointed out in my related article (
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1744&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )
, where I did NOT recommend the Pulsar 260 at all for any MS BT stack user.

You can't do anything to fix this, unfortunately. Sell the Pulsar and get
something compatible; for example, a Nokia. Alternatively, try to "hack" the
Widcomm BT stack on your phone. Again, see my above articles for a full
explanation and roundup.

Thanks for the reply - I've actually just sent you a message on the
Brighthand forum, but it looks like this answers my question. So even with
the latest WM6 implementation of A2DP I'll still can't achieve an acceptable
sound quality with the Pulsar? :-( That's a pity, but I can still get a
refund if I take them back this week.

I would like to try the Widcomm BT stack, but have no idea where to obtain
this, or how to install it under WM6. Can you point me to any resources on
how to do this?

Thanks,
Shaun.

Unfortunately, there's no definite answer to this: there's no Eten
M700-specirfic version. However, some of the existing builds might work. See
the links at
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1649&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

Note that while the A2DP might work with these, the headset functionality
(to use it as a wireless headset to make calls) most probably won't.
