I'm trying to update my PC -- just reinstalled XP and have a lot of
downloads. A few downloaded but rest don't. They give the 0x80072EFD error
and I've made all the checks and corrections I know for this, including proxy
settings, firewall settings (it's completely off now), antivirus settings,
and dns cache flushing.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any more?

Why did you reinstall WinXP? Did you do a Repair Install or a clean
install?
