You can run a recalibration which basically resets the battery meter to the
capabilities of the battery as it ages so it can tell you how long the
battery will last. It won't give new life to your old battery as it is a Li
ion battery and not an older type nicad which needed deep discharge/recharge
to restore it. The 1000 was made in about 2004 so if you still have the
original battery for this old Dell, it is time for either a new battery or a
new computer. If you need spare parts for your 1000 (other than a battery)
I have one that will sell cheap.
