Is there a way to record these videos (avi or flv format] on the local
hard drive under SuSE linux?

Yes. Use wget or curl, and then "Use the source Luke". That doesn't
mean you won't have issues doing so, but it should be possible.

Don't tell that to my system still running SuSE 9.1. I don't know what
it would do if it found out the OS didn't exist. Possibly start running
the WinME that's still installed on that same drive.

There is, and I've given a hint. Won't say exactly how it's done
because part of the fun is figuring out how to do stuff.

I use Firefox with DownloadHelper plugin. You can watch and download
clips as FLV.
