when I try to open attachments Outlook 2007 tries to open it as a spreadsheet
then gives me an error message: spreadsheet cannot be open. This happens
even if attachment displays HTML or Word logo.

Outlook obeys the Windows settings. If you save the attachment to disk, does
it open correctly?
