Hi,

This bug only affects systems with a non Unicode locale. (As mine in
iso-8859-15) and can be easily reproduced with dragon player or amarok while
trying. I'm using slackware-current for x86_64, but x86 is also affected.

Phonon assumes that mrl provided to xine are encoded in utf-8, but xine
assume that it is encoded in system's locale.

Some forums provide the huge solution to configure the whole system in utf-8
locale, this solution works, but is obviously invasive.
A patch have been submitted on the kde bug tracking system to avoid this
"big" solution in this thread:

It just encode the mrl in the given locale if it differs from utf8. (Qt's
QUrl::toEncoded() method assumes utf-8 encoding (and is preserved if system
locale is Unicode).

I applied the patch given in this thread on the package phonon (which
contains xine and gstreamer back-end) only on the xine side, with a good
result. Now amarok and dragon-player are able to play files with non-ascii
names on my install.

Maybe the best solution would be to ask xine to support utf8 encoded mrls
since it seems to be the Qt standard, but I couldn't find any rfc that
specify that this must be the case. Almost everything I found mentioned
iso-8859-1, but it doesn't fits if you want to listen your favorite Korean
dramas' musics ;)..
