I have a server running Windows Server 2003. When I try to open Internet
Explorer 8, it acts like it's going to open, but then quickly just shuts down
completely. The event viewer just shows iexplore.exe as the faulting
application event ID 1000, but no real specific information. While
troubleshooting this problem, I noticed that when I try to go to Start/Run
and then services.msc (or try to open "services" from Administrative Toos), I
get the "Microsoft Management Console encountered a problem and needs to
close" error, and it shuts down. The event viewer shows event ID 1001, but
again doesn't really help. I tried uninstalling IE 8, which brought me back
to IE 7. The same problem occurred with IE 7. Then I reinstalled IE 8 and
the problem is still the same. I have run a full virus scan with Trend Micro
and it found no malware. I'm stumped at this point. The only thing that
changed recently was we swapped out the computer monitor to a larger flat
screen (an Acer). No software was installed with any CDs. It was just plug
and play.

Thanks,

Adam V.

Does this behavior stops if you disable all your Add Ons in IE ?

I'd like to add that Outlook Express does the same thing. It opens and then
closes immediately. I installed Firefox and it works fine.
