I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 which drives just fine my Dell 2407 1920 X
1200 monitor if I connect via the VGA socket on the laptop.

But I want to buy a docking device, I haven't found one rated at that
resolution?

[BTW if you don't know, but know of another place worth asking I would
be grateful to know?]

I would think that a docking station for your Dell should putout the
same as what the laptop puts out of the VGA output. As the laptop has
the GPU (which determines the VGA output) and not the docking station.

Back many years ago, docking stations also had hard drives and video
cards. But that was like in the 90's. I don't think anybody does it that
way anymore. I am by the way actually using a docking station with this
computer right now. You could try asking in the Dell newsgroup and they
would know better than I for a Dell.

I recently saw the announcement of a video box with USB as the input and VGA as
the output connection. The resolutions I forgot. Price was about 50 Euros.

Thanks guys. After more research there definitely seem to be devices
out there that support 1920X 1200, though some only do 16 bit colour.
As you say, you'd hope dockstation would just pass through from the
laptop...

Will follow up on your suggestions
