With Block Auto Start de-selected, when I plug a certain multi card
reader into the usb port the machine immediately restarts. Only happens
with this one device so far and is ok if I select the block auto start
(which seems a bit counter intuitive). If I leave the offending device
plugged in the machine boots ok.
I suppose I'll just block auto start for now (the default), although
it's a nuisance for my backup usb stick with a truecrypt container.

Seems fine with my USB HDD, scans fine and no crashes. :)

No, it's fine with everything else I have so it's some anomaly with the
reader, but the reader works fine otherwise.
It was a choice between switching to MS essentials or keeping Avira and
work around the not running autorun on my TrueCrypt usb stick. I decided
on the latter on the basis Avira seems to be a darn good product and who
knows, maybe I'll be spared a problem down the road. The TrueCrypt
problem is only a couple of mouse clicks to solve.

Thats a good thing, everything is working fine here too, I re-selected
"ProActiv" and scanning seem's fine, but as soon as I re-select "Follow
symbolic links" it totally craps out when doing a full system scan.

I use TC (TrueCrypt) too, it's a /good/ encryption program.
