Correct. No booting off of it needed. I just using it as a portable
storage device between PCs with Windows (XP to latest like 7; also be
able to use it in Windows PE if needed). No Macs and Linux.

Yeah, forget that idea. Easy and quick portability, with huge storage,
is a key. I will just split my 2+ TB storages into pieces for each
external HDD and then carry each one instead. :(

Ugh. Wow, so picky!

Yeah, I might have to go that route. I didn't know 2 TB was the
maximum/max. for portability. Are companies working on to make portable
disk sizes bigger? I guess we really need MS to make a new FS. I
recalled they axed that WinFS or something a few years ago (before Vista
was released?) and here we are still using NTFS.

Yea, I understand. But I am dealing with consumer environments. :/
Thanks though.

For now, I am going to buy more than 2 TB external HDDs with USB2. I
might not get ESATA and firewire support due to lack of consumer and
small business PCs using them. Obviously, USB3 isn't mainstreamed yet
and could be useful.

Wrong, as always.

It is based on the hard facts of how hot they dont get and how quiet they are, and how
few are howling about major problems like you see with Seagate and WD currently.

I have 3 1TB WD Black in this PC I am using right now and have had no
such issues. I have some Samsung HDDs in other PCs right now too but I
bought the WD Blacks because they came highly recommended and not
because they have noise or heat issues.
