what would be the best practice for partitioning a exchange 2003 server with
a 500 gb storage?

1. system (20 gb)
2. pagefile (4 gb)
3. logs (? gb)
4. db (? gb)

thanks.

How many users and size of database would be helpful. What is your RAID
configuration?

If you're talking about a single drive, there's no reason to create separate
log and database partitions. You really ought to have those on separate
physical drives from each other for recoverability in the event of a
failure.

about 30 users, db expected to be 10gb maximum per user.

If the your database an logs are on the same physical set of disks
performance will suffer. This is why I asked, are you using any RAID?
Preferred to have Databases on RAID 10 or 5 partition and Log Files on RAID
1. I doubt for just 30 users you will see any significant performance
issues on the same physical disks but I would monitor it.
