Trying to burn a CD but the burner doesn't see a CD in the drive. When
I right click on the icon in My Computer, and choose open, I get: Please
insert disk into Drive D.' (this is with a blank CD in the drive)

If I put a data disk in, I get same result. If I put in a CD with music
on it, it plays just fine.

Put a bootable disc in, check the system bios to confirm it
is set to try to boot from it, and see if it will boot.

That will separate operating system problems from hardware
failure to read discs as it degrades... pressed music CDs
are easier to read than data discs.

Odds are you need to replace the burner, that it's just worn
out or age degraded, maybe just too dusty so you might try
spraying some compressed air into it.
