Jonathon I have had the sign in problem form Windows Live Messenger on and off since I installed it a few weeks ago and like your other correspondents could not find the entry "%userprofile%\contacts. I uninstalled and reinstalled application several times but it is a no-no, Eventually I scraped out every trace of it from the system, installed MSN M 6.2 with out any problems and the 7.5 on top which is now working OK. I noted that 6.2 installer is 8.4MB, 7.5 is 9.1MB and Windows live messenger 15.2Mb, no wonder it is so much trouble. My prime use of MSN is the email client and MSNM is only useful for sending SMS messages. I do not really need it but MSN will not work without MSNM. On the other hand Outlook 2003 works perfectly without MSNM but unfortunately it does not have such good message handling and anti-spam features. It seems that Microsoft is a "house" divided against itself and the terrible problems attendant on the non-Office side are always terrible so I am hoping that I will not live so long that I have to try Vista Best wishes -- Uncle John [clipped] |
