From: tom on 16 Nov 2009 09:11 Vista Sp2 gives me a error on one of our office computers. During updating it states: "Er kan niet naar updates worden gezocht Er is een fout opgetreden tijdens het zoeken naar nieuwe updates voor uw computer. Fout(en): Code C80003F9 Er is een onbekende fout in Windows update opgetreden. " This is dutch for: We had a error looking for updates. I tried installing update agent 7.4.7600.226 but still keeps the error on updates. Is't there a Xp like of website way to download updates if the other way fails ? I have read somewhere about ntdsbmsg.dll. This one is not even present on the Vista pc's I looked trough with searching trough hidden and non-indexed folders. Does it still keeps a way to making a solution? At first I thought the mix of v9 (e.g. from download) and v6 (from update) might be significant but FWIW I checked my WU log on VistaSP2 and that's what I had too. Other than the ProcMon idea the only thing that comes to mind is if you might be missing a Language Preference to specify what version to download. Unfortunately it looks as if we can't tell from the log if that is a factor. I don't know if it would be in this case but it sometimes is for other updates. HTH Robert Aldwinckle ---

Are you trying to update to SP2 or are you trying to update a system with Vista SP2 already installed ? Which firewall is being used and what is the installed antivirus/security suite ? If the installed AV is configured to scan the locked file that stores the updating database, then it may have corrupted it.
