My computer frequently hanged (screen freezed) after using for 10 to 20
minutes under WinXP (SP2) with 512 M RAM. Most of the time after the
hanging and reboot, I found the following events in the Event Viewer:

System
(1) Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 5.01. 2600 Service Pack 2 Uniprocessor Free.
With Event ID 6009; &

(2) The Event log service was started. With Event ID 6005

Application

(1) wuauclt (2000) The database engine stopped. With Event ID 101; &

(2) wuaueng.dll (2000) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped
the instance (0). With Event ID 103

Could someone help me to fix the problem without the need to uninstall SP2,
please?

Try this: Start>Run and type in each line hitting <Enter> at each end:

REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wups.dll

If you use XP firewall, try to disable Aotumatic Updates. I think you have troubles with Windows Update.
