I'm getting Front Page Error when trying to open a web site on a 2003 web
server, IIS 6

Server Error: Error 5 opening registry key ?software\classes\.application?

When I re install IIS the error stops for a while then comes back. Need Ideas
Thanks

Try this
"Error 5 opening registry key" error message when you try to configure the
FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833699

and post to frontpage group if the above doesn't help.

Bernard, thanks but it is already set to "local system" the Front Page group
said this was not a Front Page problem and to contact IIS - - go figure?

Wohhh.. Well - it's frontpage issue not an IIS as far as I can tell.
Anyway - get Regmon from sysinternals.com and trace the access issue.

I am also having this same problem on a production server that people
are using. I have to re extend the web everytime someone wants to use
their FP.

What I did see , when you get the error you get in regmon :

w3wp.exe OpenKey HKCR\ARC Access Denied MachineName\IUSR_Machinename

When you do not get the error (like right after re extending the web)
you see nothing of the sort.

This is very disturbing, as I had 0 problems with FP webs under linux.
(im really considering putting it back until this has been figured out
by someone) You would think it would run better with less hassle under
windows, and having it native to windows was one reason for switching
to server 2K3.

I have been having this issue for 4 months now. I would very much like
to have anyones input on this.
