I have
1) Disabled Norton Smart Firewall

2) Reinstated the native Windows Firewall
3) used command prompt
4) used netsh winsock reset
5) request to restart
6)exit and then restarted

7) tried to use windows update and using the express button I receive the
same error 0x80090008

The NS2010 was installed on 24 Nov 2009 and I did not have any problems
before the last updates I received.
This only seems to of happened after the updates I had on the 12/09/2009

If you uninstall NIS 2010 & reboot, enable the Windows Firewalll, run the
Norton Removal Tool & reboot again, does the behavior persist?
