I painted my bedroom (which is where I have my PC desktop set up) and
after the painting was done, and my computer was put back, Windows
wouldn't start up. It would get to the Windows XP loading screen but no
further.

Eventually I erased the partition and reinstalled it completely. Now
it works fine, only problem being that I can't get internet.

When I plug my ethernet cable into the back of my computer the little
green light turns on so it IS detecting that something's plugged into
that slot, but in my network connections folder there is only the 1394
connection in the LAN or High speed area. In the incoming area it says
no incoming connections.

When I open IE it says "Page unavailable"

There is no idication whatsoever that a cable is plugged in, but no
indication that my network cables are unplugged.

I don't know what to do. Help me, please.

Depending on exactly how you "reinstalled it completely," you more than
likely have to install the drivers for your hardware. Although this is
less of a problem for a desktop than a laptop (which often has more
proprietary hardware), and even though XP will recognize most of the
hardware and install drivers (although sometimes not the latest ones),
it sounds like you at least need a driver for your network interface card.

You may need one for your video card as well in order to get all of the
functionality from it.

If you have a brand name PC, go to the manufacturer's web site and
download the requisite driver(s). Obviously, you'll have to do this on
another computer and either burn them to a CD or copy them to a USB
memory stick. If you don't have a brand name PC, open Device Manager,
identify your network adapter, and get the driver from its manufacturer.
I suggest that you *not* allow Windows to find the driver on its own
from Windows Update.
