Using Acronis True Image -or the free editions called Seagate disk wizard or WD disk
wizard- I use to keep backup images of my C partition.
Since I still use XP + basic home user software, it only takes 3 minutes to make such a
backup (less than 2 GB).

In any doubtful situation (whatever due to myself or to possible malware), I use to
restore the last C-image.
I feel this is the best way to keep 100% in control of what my PC is doing. Even without
using any anti-virus .

But there is a problem: restoring a C-image will destroy any recent data which have been
written to C instead of to my data partition D.

With XP , it is not difficult to change path of Favorites, mail, desktop and Document
folders.
But on Vista I feel I am loosing control. Vista uses different folder names seen from
the system or seen from the user.
I expect it is the same on windows 7.

Microsoft keeps assuming that users are happy with keeping system and data mixed
together on one C partition.
But it appears that more and more users are wishing to keep their data on a separate
partition.

Is there any ** HOW TO** description of this problem somewhere on the net ?

Or eventually an utility doing the job: copying all user data from C to D

Could be called 'Win7 user data ripper' ....?

If MS wanted to make windows more user friendly, they should add one little step in the
install procedure:

Select preferred way to keep data when working with windows:

o------ on your C-drive together with windows
o------ or on a separate partition on your hard drive
o------ or online on some internet storage

Paul,

Have you moved all of your User Folders to the D: drive?
